Tips to Start Your Hyatt Diamond Challenge on June 1
  • Obtain Hilton Gold Status via “Free Hilton Gold” trick(here is a good article) or Hilton Reserve Citicard.
  • Calculate if the Hyatt Diamond status is worth chasing.
  • Plan 12 paid nights in 60 days.  For a business traveler, the Hyatt Diamond Challenge is awesome.  However, if you are a leisure traveler, plan your travel around discounted hotel rates.  Another option is to use the Barclaycard Arrival card to pay for the hotel, and use Barclay points to receive a statement credit.  You will still get all the benefits and qualify for a paid rate.
  • Apply for Hyatt Credit Card after activating challenge to receive two free suite nights.
  • Plan for aspirational properties such as Hyatt Paris Vendome, Park Hyatt Tokyo, etc to maximize your Hyatt Diamond perks.  The Hyatt Diamond perks are far better than domestic Hyatt properties.  We enjoyed our free $75 buffet breakfast in Paris very much.
  • Consider doing a mattress run or two at properties with closed Regency club for 2,500 bonus points.
  • Apply for Hyatt’s latest promotions.

Good luck if you are deciding to start your Hyatt Diamond Challenge on June 1.  You don’t have to exactly start on June 1, but do what works according to your travel plans.  Note that it takes 2-3 days for the Hyatt Diamond status to process.  I would try activating it on June 1 just to be safe though.

Save at least $400 on your next trip using one of my favorite credit cards, Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard! 40,000 points with no fee first year.

Is having Hilton Gold status by itself enough to get matched? I thought they now require a minimum number of stays?

I’d love to get Diamond for my trip to the Vendome in October.

The required stays are ymmv. I had only one stay on my statement for hilton gold.

Is the challenge a once in a lifetime thing or can be done once a year?

Once a lifetime but perhaps you could make another account.

Oh man, I should have read discovered this post 2 days ago!! I just applied for the Hyatt Diamond status match. I’m Diamond on Hilton and sent an email to Hyatt with a copy of my Hilton statement. Hyatt immediately approved my status challenge. I was disappointed to learn that even if I get my 12 nights in 60 days, it expires Feb 2014. That is kind of a bummer. Wish I would have waited until June 1st like you recommended :(

Good news is though, Hyatt already posted 4 free Suite Upgrade awards in my account the day they approved me for the challenge. Those awards don’t expire until Feb 2014, so that is a nice consolation I guess. I think I will also apply for the Hyatt credit card while I’m still Diamond because once approved, I get 2 free nights in a suite!

I don’t think I’ll be able to get the 12 nights in 60 days to maintain Diamond…bad experience….I stayed 4 nights last week in a Hyatt but because my employer purchased the block of rooms as a direct bill, I didn’t get any points or stay credit even though the desk clerk said I would. I was pissed! I escalated to Hyatt but they just sorry, its policy. So on top of that, I should have waited anyway until after June to do the challenge, arg……

Question: How soon can you come back to a hotel company and do another challenge? 1 year? Thanks – great site by the way just wish I would have discovered sooner.

Oh man! Sorry to hear that.. It’s one per lifetime, but doesn’t mean you can’t create a new account… I haven’t tried though.

Yes, can someone confirm if you can have diamond until Feb 2015?

    Thank you

Read the flyertalk, the hyatt representative and several members confirmed it

    • June 10, 2013 at 11:32 am

Just applied for the trial today and can confirm it is thru February 2015. They got back to me and upgraded by account within 12 hours of my original query, which is brilliant service! Diamond status was not showing up straight away on my account but has been since the last few hours or so. No awards showing (yet), should I be expecting 4 suite upgrades to post soon? FWIW I matched with Hilton Gold with only 1 stay on my account.

Awesome thanks for reporting! Hope you enjoy Diamond status it’s awesome!

So, if you did the Diamond Challenge now-it would be valid until Feb 2015 correct? Assuming you met the challenge requirements of 12 stays in 60 days, what would you need to do to re-qualify for diamond the next year? Would you need to do another 13 stays/38 nights by the end of 2014, therefore extending it to Feb 2016?
