Taiwan is not usually on people’s top destinations lists.  However, you might want to reconsider that statement after this post.  If you love eating, Taiwan has awesome food at reasonable prices.  I recently had the chance to travel to Taipei, Taiwan and I was never hungry at any moment.  The main attraction in Taiwan is to eat and eat.  I tried to document my foodie adventures in Taipei here.

We landed at Taoyuan International Airport at 5:30am in the morning and got picked up by a relative and went straight to Taiwanese breakfast even though we just had breakfast Breakfast in Taiwan might be my favorite meal.

Right after breakfast, we rested a bit and then went to the famous Din Tai Fung for soup dumplings near the Taipei 101 area.  Din Tai Fung is a famous dumpling house that serves soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and is a big hit in the states as well.  In Taiwan they have a few more unique items like shrimp and squash xiao long bao and truffle xiao long bao at $3 a piece!

I probably ate 2 or 3 times what you see.  I either forgot to take pictures or it wasn’t that good.  I miss the food in Taiwan already.  Prices are really cheap and reasonable in Taipei.  You can eat a good meal like a bowl of beef noodle soup or pork chop rice for $3-$4.  Boba drinks are only $1 to $1.50, probably 3 times cheaper than here!  We enjoyed our 5 days in Taipei, hope you all can plan a trip to just eat in Taiwan!

    Hi Rom,
Thanks for sharing your food adventures in Taiwan. What would you recommend for the best way to use points to travel from SFO to TPE? I’m thinking of transferring 65,000 points from Ultimate rewards to EVA, but didn’t know if the availability is good using this route. Thanks!

You have to transfer to united to book EVA. Search united.com for availability. There’s lots of space far in advance but not so much in the short run.
