Right now, the British Airways Visa Signature Card is offering an increased sign-up bonus, allowing you to earn up to 100,000 bonus Avios. The bonus can be met after the following:
- 50,000 bonus Avios after you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening
- 25,000 additional bonus Avios after you spend $10,000 total on purchases within your first year from account opening
- 25,000 additional bonus Avios after you spend $20,000 total on purchases within your first year from account opening
I currently have applied for more than 5 cards in 24 months, so I don’t qualify for most Chase credit cards. However, the Chase British Airways Visa Card is not affected by the 5/24 rule. Therefore, I can safely apply for this card, while I wait for my wife’s account to cool down. Basically I am applying for all non-Chase cards and my wife is only applying for business cards that don’t affect the 5/24 rule.
The British Airways 100K Avios bonus is very valuable because that equates to four roundtrip tickets to Hawaii or 70K Avios equates to a roundtrip ticket from LAX to Auckland, which I used on our recent awesome trip to New Zealand! I’ve also used Avios to travel within Asia on Cathay and JAL and within Europe on British Airways. Using Avios is a great way to save money on short haul flights
Note that the $95 annual fee is not waived. However, it is still a great value if you can spend a lot in a year. Even with the 50K bonus, you can get great value. Spending $95 for two free tickets to Hawaii from the west coast is an amazing deal. The good news is that you can take a whole year (which I have before) to earn the 100K Avios. This is a great back burner card to apply for now!
