Flying business class on miles nowadays is quite expensive, but there are still some deals to be found.  To fly to Taiwan, most airlines charge over 150,000 miles to North Asia.  However, there is one airline that charges a lot less.  The best mileage deal for business class to Taiwan is using ANA miles.

Business Mileage amounts to fly to Taiwan:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan for 75,000 miles one-way in business class (transfer partners with Amex and SPG)
  • All Nippon Airlines for 95,000 miles roundtrip in business class (transfer partners with Amex and SPG)
  • Avianca LifeMiles for 75,000 miles one-way in business class (transfer partners with Amex and SPG)
  • United MileagePlus for 80,000 miles one-way in business class (transfer partners with Chase)

As you can see above, on a roundtrip ticket, you can save 55,000 – 65,000 airline miles using ANA miles on EVA Air.  Both these airlines are Star Alliance partners.

Accumulating ANA Miles

The easiest way to accumulate ANA miles is transferring miles at a 1:1 ratio from AMEX Membership Rewards or a 20,000 to 25,000 transfer from SPG.  Here are the credit cards to apply for to accumulate these miles (thank you for your support on this site if you apply):

AMEX Business Rewards Gold Credit Card – 50,000 AMEX MR sign up bonus (no fee first year, $5k in 3 months)

AMEX Platinum Personal Credit Card – 60,000 AMEX MR sign up bonus ($550 annual fee)

AMEX Platinum Business Credit Card 75,000 AMEX MR sign up bonus (high spend, $450 annual fee)

AMEX Starwood Preferred Guest Personal and Business credit cards – 25K SPG, $5K in 3 months

AMEX Premier Rewards Gold Personal credit card – 25,000 AMEX MR sign up bonus $2k in 3 months

My personal choices above would be the AMEX Business Rewards Gold credit card because there’s no annual fee first year, and either of the AMEX SPG cards because no fee as well.  With these two cards, you will be very close to the 95,000 points required.  Keep in mind that you can only apply for these cards once per lifetime.

Conclusion

Of course I would never pay $4,000+ for a ticket, so the real value is hard to measure.  Nonetheless, it’s a great deal for just two credit card sign ups or so.  ANA miles take about a day or two to transfer over, so make sure you know what flights you are looking for first before transferring.  Booking the tickets can be all done on ANA’s website and is pretty straight forward once you have the mileage.  Also, transferring from SPG could take up to a week.  I would say this would be a great use of AMEX Membership Rewards points.  I consider AMEX MR points harder to accumulate vs. Chase Ultimate Rewards.  I’m not sure how long the best mileage deal for business class to Taiwan will last.  Let me know if you have any questions.

    Hi Romin,

Great post! Curious if you’ve abandoned Chase with their 5/24?

Also, do you have any links that don’t have the once-per-lifetime language?

Finally, do you see increased BR availability from NH website vs UA? Or is the inventory access the same, but at a lower price point?

I’m taking a break from Chase, while applying on my spouses account for Chase now. I don’t have any AMEX links without once-per-lifetime. I just use United for BR and looks like same availability.
