New to all of this… all these promotions are confusing…

What is better: a redeeming points program for dollars or miles?

Is there a particular card that is better for travel to South America and, or the Caribbean?

Thanks for reading. Points have more value than cash when travelling. For South America, Chase Sapphire Preferred would be good because points transfer to United and British Airways. With BA miles you can fly on LAN. If you don’t want to deal with miles at all and pay cash, the Barclaycard Arrival is a good card. Feel free to email me with questions.

No… Thank YOU for posting! Reading your page has been very helpful. After doing all this research, I am going to try United Mileage (credit karma says I have a poor chance), Barclay Arrival (ck says fair chance) and Capital One Venture (ck says good chance of approval) on Monday… I am nervous: Ck says my score is 685, but when I pulled all 3 reports they were all above 730… We’ll see…Wish me luck;-)

I would do chase sapphire preferred and barclaycard arrival. You should be good for those. I usually ignore credit karmas recommendations. Lemme know if you need more help

I noticed the posts I have been reading have very little or nothing to say about the Marriott OR US Bank Flexperks card? It appears Marriott has the highest bonus points and competitive rate, etc… And, US Bank overall receives the best bank ratings… So, what’s up with these cards, why aren’t they more popular? Do have either? Are they difficult approvals or low credit limits?

They are decent cards. I personally am not a big fan of Marriott. It costs about 35,000 points for a good hotel. Also their elite status is hard to obtain. The sign up bonus is decent but that’s about it. The flexperks card is good for cash tickets but can be hard to use. $400 ticket costs 20K flexperks but $401 ticket costs 30K.

    Hi Roms:

My parents will be visiting me in Chicago this March. They are coming from South Asia and I would like to take care of their flight fares. Typically, an economy roundtrip fare will be around $1250/person irrespective of which airlines they fly. To fly in Chicago, they have Etihad, British Airways, Qatar, Lufthansa as main choices.

How can I rack up points for their trip? I used to have Chase SP, but did a product change to avoid annual fee. I can’t apply for CSP again. I am looking at Amex Starwood SPG card. Other cards I have are chase freedom, Amex BCF. I have >750 credit score. Should I apply for any credit cards on a single day? Also, booking flight in business class for parents out of question? Please advise.

How many miles do you have? I would try applying for Chase Ink Bold, Citi AA 50K, AMEX SPG.. Award tickets are kind of scarce right now. I would try to apply for 3 credit cards at once if possible and do manufactured spending to meet the spend quickly. Your time schedule is a bit tight right now… You can gamble on last minute availability as well. Feel free to email me or respond.

I am going to Taiwan in July 2014. I opened 3 credit cards for their bonus awards, in 3 months I should have 140,000 points between all three cards. Do I have to join a frequent flyers club to redeem the points. I am using award wallet to track everything.
